5 Ways To Gain Clarity & Increase Your Creativity

I used to be afraid of being alone with myself and God. I felt so weird and uncomfortable like I was alone with a stranger. I wasn’t confident in who I was because I barely knew who I was. Spending time with myself meant being alone with the thoughts in mind and confronting the fact that I didn’t feel good enough. I didn’t feel as if my ideas and dreams for my life were realistic and something I could do. I was also afraid that if I spent too much time connecting with God that I would be judged because Lord knows I wasn’t living life exactly how he would have wanted me to. So, I did everything in my power to stay away from solitude, but in all honesty, I was just delaying my own growth.

Being human we thrive off interacting with others. However, we make those interactions and relationships with other people in the world great and life-changing when we do the work within ourselves first. Breaking away and spending time with God and ourselves each day has so many benefits. Alone time has the power to bring such clarity, creativity, and meaning to our lives. Being in solitude gives us the space to tap into the authentic creativity inside of us and access the power God has given us to do some great things in this world!

Now that sounds good and everything, but I’ll be the first to admit being alone with myself and God was not easy at first! It scared the heck out of me, but it was one of the best things I have ever done for 4 reasons.

First, by spending alone time with God, I was able to drown out the voice of the world and hear God’s voice clearer than ever before. I eliminated distractions and opened the door to learning who the heck I really was and what I was capable of in this world!

Another reason alone time was great for me was HEALING! When I learned who God created me to be and who I was in him, deep-rooted wounds were healed. My hurt from rejection, my broken heart, shame, guilt and so much more were healed and released from me. Without the influence and opinions of others, I was able to truly heal and grow. I became more confident in who God created me to be and way more self-aware. I was forced to confront the thoughts I had about myself and change my thought patterns. I had to face my fears of failure and come to grips with the fact that I am human and it is ok to be afraid but I cannot let fear have me and run my life. Healing is one of the biggest reasons solitude was good for me because the woman I am healed has the power to give so much to those around me.

Also, once I learned who I was and what I was capable of - my confidence grew and my ideas and creativity just began to flow authentically. In this time of solitude, I gave God the chance to tell me great and life-changing things that I wouldn’t have been able to hear from anyone else!

Lastly, investing in the alone time allowed me to experience a renewed life, mindset and finally take on the life I dreamed about! I began healing from the inside out, found my purpose, and became a better person which in turn makes me better for the people around me.

BUT HOW? It is easy to talk about the good that came from something but the best piece of advice is how you got there! Maybe you feel afraid and don’t know how to be alone like I did.

Well, try these 5 things to start and see where it gets you. As you are preparing to have some alone time with God and yourself,

  1. Eliminate distractions. Leave the electronics somewhere else so you are not distracted by notifications and the infamous phantom vibration.

  2. Create a safe and welcoming space with the vibes that will make you feel safe in this space. Add quotes to the walls, find inspiring books and scriptures that will make this space one you want to dwell on consistently.

  3. Find something you enjoy doing and find time in your schedule to incorporate this more. Maybe it is gardening, reading or painting. Find something that doesn’t involve an electronic device and let your mind be stimulated.

  4. Daydream, reflect and journal as often as you can.

  5. Last but not least, the most important step of them all. Invite God into your daily life!

Make time for yourself. Being selfish in this way can actually be selfless. When you take care of yourself you become better for those around you! So, take a moment, pause, and think about how you are going to spend time with God. Commit to it even if you are afraid. It will change your whole life!
